Wastewater Treatment Plant

Bluffton’s original Wastewater Treatment Plant was built in 1976, with a second built in 1997. Combined, they are a 6 million gallons per day (MGD) design flow with a 9 MGD peak flow extended aeration facility. The treatment plant also has three EQ basins that can hold approximately 4.9 MG of wastewater during a rain event, which are utilized once the site meets a max peak flow of 9 MGD. Bluffton’s Wastewater Treatment facility is currently undergoing a $32 million dollar expansion, with the upgraded plant designed for a 6 MGD daily flow and 13 MGD peak daily flow. The expansion is expected to be complete in mid-2025.
